Flare VM installation keeps getting stuck in installing visualstudio2017

What's the problem?

Dears,

My Flare VM installation keeps getting stuck at installing visualstudio2017 every time on VBox. I tried Windows 10 Pro and 11 Pro and it failed. I tried installing Visual Studio before hand and it did not solve anything.

1. Installing Flare-VM as instructed in the repo.

hey quixottte, I'm aware of your issue, and try again installing it from scratch. If you again encounter it, Authenticode verification returned 0x00000000 for path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\Installer\setup.exe. just wait for 20-30 min., then it gets normal, and continue with the rest of the installation.

@quixottte what do you mean with visualstudio2017? Do you mean the visualstudio.vm package or is it something else? I have installed the visualstudio.vm package locally several times in the last week and it was successfully installed it. Our CI has also been able to install it without issues recently: https://github.com/mandiant/VM-Packages/wiki/Daily-Failures. Note the package takes long to install and this is expected (we are planing to improve the documentation on this: https://github.com/mandiant/VM-Packages/issues/1391). This is also the reason why we don't have it in the default configuration by default.

Please provide all the information requested in the bug issue template to ensure I am able to help as I don't understand the issue with the information provided. Concretely, provide:

• The output of VM-Get-Host-Info command
• The log files C:\ProgramData_VM\log.txt and C:\ProgramData\chocolatey\logs\chocolatey.log

In addition, please provide the list of installed packages, as visualstudio is not part of the default configuration.

I meant that the error @quixottte encountered will last for 20–30 minutes. All he needs to do is wait for a few minutes without interrupting the process.

Hey, I am also facing the same issue. As per your solution, we have to wait for 20-30 min, but my VM crashes with this error: "kernel data inpage error". Please help me out. I tried installing it separately using this "choco install visualstudio2017-workload-vctools" but still got the same error "Authenticode verification returned 0x00000000 for path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\Installer\setup.exe." and VM crashed.

@pandeytanuj01 do you get the kernel data inpage error when installing visualstudio.vm or vcbuildtools.vm? Please ensure you have enough memory (visualstudio requires substantial disk space) and try to install the package with choco install. If the error persists, please open a new issue in https://github.com/mandiant/VM-Packages as we only track issues with installer and not with concrete packages in this repository (this is documented in the CONTRIBUTING file, the README, and the issue templates). When opening the issue, ensure you select the bug template and provide all the information requested there (like a full log) as otherwise we are not able to help.
