Polkit sounds like a great idea, thanks. I'll look into it and see if I can add it to Mausoleum
I tested pkexec and it's a bit of a hassle. In order to avoid seeing a popup every time a command is run, the user needs a root level policy...
Either is fine with me. I think you could make the case that option 2 makes the most sense as it is consistent with `close`.
