Adress Book - Default billing address overrides default shipping address.

Preconditions

1. Magento 2.1.8
2. Php 7

Steps to reproduce

1. Create Account
2. Go to Address Book
3. Enter address and save
4. Edit default billing address and save

Expected result

1. Default billing address gets saved
2. Default shipping address will remain the same

Actual result

1. Shipping address gets overridden, too - and vice versa

A customer wrote us this after trying to change the address for 20 minutes he ordered via email then.

I'm not sure why this was marked as "closed". For a project we're working on, our client called this a "showstopper bug".

Well, apparently, it is considered by Magento, Inc. to be a "feature request" rather than a bug report. You'd probably need to dig into the original report at https://github.com/magento/magento2/issues/10556 in order to get more details on that.

Current state means that Magneto (the company) doesn't have immediate plans to start working on this issue themselves, Instead, they expect some community developer to maybe come forward and provide a Pull Request with the fix.

Please note that if your client if your client happens to use Magento Commerce (formerly "Magento Enterprise Edition") he could put up a ticket into his Merchant Portal (I think you could also do it on his behalf via the Partner Portal, but not 100% sure) and that should normally get a faster response than the github issues have.

As a quick workaround, why don't you keep the "set as default billing address" or "set as default shipping address" visible. At least user have the option to disassociate the two. Hiding options is an unnecessary functionality
