why is my contanier list empty?

Why is my container list empty on the first overview page despite the side menu shows several containers and they are running ?

Because you are using lxc 1.0 while this repo Support up to lxc 0.8

On my repo you can find a version compatible with lxc 1.0 and many more features, see also bug #60
