Pawn piece in move announcement
If one records the pawn piece, the move announcement speaks the pawn piece. e4 becomes "pawn e4", not simply "e4". But that is not speaking the SAN. If one does not know the connection between recording, one cannot get rid of this!
I suggest either removing recording the pawn piece (and so speaking it) or making this a more transparent feature.
That would be accomplished by not speaking the pawn piece by default, also if recorded. Instead, add a checkbox on Config / Options if to speak it, and if so, point out if not yet recorded. That is more of an option for beginners. I am not sure if it helps that much. Just to mention the idea. Speaking the LAN is much more helpful for beginners.
Because I sometimes use a DGT board, I focus on the move announcement. Even for beginners, I think it is better not to announce the pawn piece as it is not according to the SAN. Only if explicitly wished.
I have removed it.
Thanks. Just for illustration, this is how the DGT windows driver (which is getting outdated) has implemented the option of speaking the pawn piece. But personally, I don't think that much helps a beginner. So as such without pawn piece, it is straightforward to use.
