data/*.ini and wp-content/.object-cache.ini are not versioning friendly

Open PiotrCzapla opened this issue 5 years ago • 3 comments

The config files in data and directly in wp-content are hard to keep in version control. If you don't know that your plugin stores this files in the plugin directory you may add them to git during regular wordpress upgrade and then move the files to production. Which may result in hard to find bugs when your staging and production share the same object cache store.

Could you consider warning your users that this files should not be versioned, or maybe store them next to the cache directory?

Can you tell a bit more of why? Thanks

Not sure what I can add except for what was already written. I fixed the .gitignore for my installation. It is more for other ppl that have similar situation. Feel free to close the issue.

I'm more interested in solving #263 as it is a real pain for us.
