Are there plans to create a TPU backend?

Not right now, but it wouldn't be out of the question in the future.

One question there is whether katago's weights are amenable to lower precision or int8. Because that seems to be what the edge tpu supports.

just a nudge the Google Coral range peak at 4 Tops. surely that's enough..... and now they are available. tx

by chance I grazed this implementation of MuGo by Google Research on a Coral USB: "Minigo on the Edge TPU accelerator" https://coral.ai/projects/minigo/
