Color coding for prefabs
On my own preview images I use color coding for prefabs that makes the map much more pleasant to the eye and provides some underlying information. I suggest using a color code based on the prefab tags on the Xs for the prefabs on the map.
Alpha 20 stable mixer uses the following tags to control zoning:
- gateway: POIs on the city connection to the intercity roads
- oldwest: "feature" town
- rural: outlying POIs in cities and towns
- countryresidential: residential POIs in country towns (the smaller towns aside oldwest)
- countrytown: non-residential POIs in country towns
- industrial: industrial POIs in cities and towns
- downtown: downtown POIs in cities
- commercial: business POIs in cities and towns
- wilderness: wilderness POIs
There's one other tag that is not used by the mixer, but relevant: trader.
I use a rather long list of colors but I suggest using the "Simcity" scheme with two additions:
- Residential: green
- Commercial: blue
- Industrial: yellow
- Downtown: gray
- Gateway/Trader: pink
