Renaming managed and unmanaged clusters for clarity

Open sedefsavas opened this issue 3 years ago • 10 comments

Since managed/unmanaged words are overloaded in CAPA (unmanaged VPC means externally managed VPC, unmanaged cluster means control plane is managed by cluster api), I think we should find better a naming for differentiating EKS-managed control planes with KCP managed control planes:

unmanaged clusters --> Cluster-API-managed clusters managed clusters --> EKS-managed clusters

Any other ideas?

Or we can choose to improve documentation.

unmanaged clusters --> Cluster-API-managed clusters managed clusters --> EKS-managed clusters

+1 for this renaming.

If we go with this:

unmanaged clusters --> Cluster-API-managed clusters
managed clusters --> EKS-managed clusters

Then we should also consider renaming the vpc side of this confusion:

IsManaged -> IsManagedByCAPA

Or something like that :smile:

I agree, we can remove unmanaged word from docs and the code.

For Clusters --> EKS-managed and CAPA-managed For VPC --> Externally-managed and CAPA-managed
