Uninformative/misleading error message: "No such file of directory" when domain parameter is missing

Open radraw opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

What happened:

Pods are not starting and you see only the following (misleading) error in describe pod:

"Output: mount error(2): No such file or directory"

The real reason is you didn't provide domain parameter in secret. After adding it and restarting pods, they run fine.

What you expected to happen:

the error message be more informative about real reason

How to reproduce it:

Don't provide domain parameter in secret (when it's neccesairy).

Anything else we need to know?:

Environment:

  • CSI Driver version: v1.6.0
  • Kubernetes version (use kubectl version): 1.24
  • OS (e.g. from /etc/os-release): Ubuntu 20.04
  • Kernel (e.g. uname -a): 5.4.0-109-generic
  • Install tools:
  • Others:

domain parameter is not essential, some smb server requires that param, some not.

Sure, this issue is in the case the domain name is required. Adding more informative error message would save hours of hopeless problem investigation.
