Battery Optimization is off but reminders still don't go off
Hello I really like your app and it worked for me twice, but for some reason even with the battery optimization turned off I still am not getting reminders. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks.
You'll have to give me some more information about your phone (model) and what version you are running. Also, what schedule are you using?
You may want to try disabling reminders, then enable them again, and don't touch anything except use the home button to return to the home screen. Wait for the first reminder to go off before returning to the app. Let me know if this helps.
Hello again, my phone is REVVL 4+ model: 5062W. The Mindful Notifier version is 1.0.23:43 and I have it set for 1 hour intervals.
I did try that technique and it worked for a little while. I am the same person who left review (I have tried changing rating back up since you responded but it is not showing) so I also turned off adaptive notifications. Again it worked for a day but then stopped.
I do appreciate you reaching out and I really wish this app worked for me (the reminders when they worked were lovely) but I think it's just not compatible with my phone. If I can't get the rating to change on my review I will delete it so it won't affect your score. Thanks again!
Hi! Unfortunately everything I found about the REVVL 4+ is people complaining about background tasks getting killed off by the phone. It's very frustrating but I don't think there's anything I can do in the app to combat this. The underlying principle I'm working with is asking Android to set an alarm at a certain time - that alarm is used to trigger the notification. Normally the alarm will survive phone restarts/etc, but if the underlying Android system is killing things then it's just not going to work for you.
I'm on Samsung a70 and also can't get sound. Have tried disabling, reneabling notifications.
Same here with Samsung s10 on Android 12.
Reminders with an intervall of 2h do not work.
You'll have to be more specific please. is it just intervals of 2h? Do other intervals work for you?
For the sound issue above - I have a Samsung a53 and have no problems with sound. I am using the 'notifications' sound channel. Have you tried changing the sound channel?
samsung a70, android 11, have tried different intervals, channels, still no bings.
Okay, I need clarifications. This issue is about reminders not going off at all, but people are talking about sound.
If it is sound only, then please try going to Bell Configuration and trying the 'Play' button for some of the bells. If there is no sound at all then that is a new issue. One which is likely phone-specific, and I will need some debug info if that's the case.
If it is the reminder itself not going off then please clarify.
I have no issues with this on my phone, a Samsung A53, nor on the emulator in the phone that I test with. If it's a specific model then maybe there's an emulator for it. Otherwise I may have to get a logcat from you to see what's going on.
For me, i can play the bell sound no problems with the Play button.
Starting the app manually, a notification appears. I swipe that away (I don't have "persitent notification" enabled) but after that, nothing comes on schedule.
Happy to provide a "logcat" if you can tell me how to do that.
Thanks @artfulrobot this is helpful. So, sound works then. It's the notification that's not firing. Would you mind enabling the persistent notification to see if that fixes it? Android distros can be very aggressive about killing apps - having a notification keeps them from getting killed.
If that works, then we can try a few things on Samsung, one of them is to "lock" the app in the Recents menu. This is done by opening the Recents, then clicking on the app icon that appears on top of the Mindful Notifier window. Then you are presented with a menu, where you can select "Lock this app". After it's locked you should see a lock icon in the bottom right corner of the app when in the Recents menu.
Interested if this helps. I always run with the persistent notification, so maybe this is the problem.
I have exactly the same issue as @artfulrobot described.
I installed the app in Version 1.0.24:45 from F-Droid on a Motorola moto g100 (XT2125-4) running Android 12. The battery optimization is disabled for the app and the bell sound can be played in the the sound menu. I also made sure that the rights or the storage will not be automatically cleaned up for the app.
If I enable the notifications in the main screen of the app, the very first notification is shown but without playing a bell. At the bottom of the main screen "Enabled. Waiting for notification." is shown. This first notification can be swiped away but no further notifications will be created.
In the preferences "Use sticky notification" is enabled. Is "persistent notification" something different? Where can it be found?
I would be happy to get the app reliably running. Like @artfulrobot I would be happy to provide a "logcat" if you can tell me how to do that.
Many thanks for any help.
