Workaround for https://github.com/jupyter/notebook/issues/7210.

It's not clear yet which change introduced the behavior reported in https://github.com/jupyter/notebook/issues/7210.

This partially manages to fix https://github.com/jupyter/notebook/issues/6665. Drives are visible in on the tree page, however there are still some issues opening a file from a drive:
