Map.fit_bounds() has no effect on Xeus-Python kernel in JupyterLab 3

I'm not sure this is an issue with Xeus-Python, but I've observed it under this kernel only in the context of using ipyleaflet with a function calling Javascript and/or asyncio code, so I'm cross-referencing it here, too: https://github.com/jupyter-widgets/ipyleaflet/issues/807 under the same title.
