study CBOR-LD
I think everyone here should become familiar with CBOR-LD, which is another closely related, binary representation format.
As per https://github.com/ietf-wg-httpapi/mediatypes/issues/8#issuecomment-1034011652 by @msporny :
- https://digitalbazaar.github.io/cbor-ld-spec/ The CBOR-LD "specification" (if you can call a collection of ramblings that: says Manu, not me)
- https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ksh-gUdjJJwDpdleasvs9aRXEmeRvqhkVWqeitx5ZAE/edit Introduction to the concepts in CBOR-LD
Note also that the JSON-LD working group had plans about CBOR, but unfortunately not enough time/momentum to finalize this work: https://w3c.github.io/json-ld-cbor/
The two documents have different focus and priorities, but should not be seen as contradicting each other (at least IMO, @msporny may have a different opinion). Digital Bazaar's document is more focused on using CBOR to compress JSON-LD as efficiently as possible.
On the other hand, the WG's document was more focused on allowing to interpret virtually any CBOR document as Linked Data. Ideally, the compression aspects would have been addressed in Section 4, where the content from Digital Bazaar's document could have been integrated.
