My name is Andrew Thomas and I'd like to help with marketing Joomla documentation.

w00t!

I'm not entirely sure what marketing the documentation would entail, but more volunteers for the documentation team is always welcome!

Thanks,

Don

Me either. I just clicked 'here'. I didn't realize it would create it as an issue. But I am all for it. I am willing to contribute in other ways with the documentation too. For starters I am wondering what everyone's input is on the mascot?

Hi Andrew and thanks for volunteering! I'll put you in touch with Robert Vining who is also interested in the marketing side of documentation. What that entails, I think, is this:

  • Helping to craft the "documentation is as important as code" message
  • Helping to write communication pieces for the JCM and developer.joomla.org
  • Work out how we can use social media as an effective tool to communicate and evangelise
  • Helping to keep information in front of people constantly (aka solving the "we posted the information once and if you missed it too bad")

Hey POPROAR (Andrew)

If you want to jump on the podcast for a few minutes or leave a prerecorded message asking for some idea of a mascot or something on the lines of that I can pump it out through the marketing channels.

I'll be recording the podcast episode on Tuesday night here Sydney time. 10+ GMT in the evening so if we can connect before then or if you can send me a voice message that would be awesome!

I can get in all rolling.

I'm not sure I have a picture in my head about the mascot, but I liked what Github did. Maybe it's a another rendering of the Joomla logo, like has been done for the framework - http://framework.joomla.org

It could be a logo built up of "stuff" that looks document-y or exudes the idea of documentation (touch call I know) or following a recipe.

So, along the lines of recipe, I'm not too keen on that for our documentation. I get that it's kind of cute and all, but I'm not sure how many developers think of themselves as chefs. But maybe that's just me.

Sure, it was just a brain dump (although the analogy that learning to be a good developer is not dissimilar to mastering the culinary arts is not too much of a stretch). We don't need a mascot, I just thought the graphic helped the visitor connect with the site in a fun way. It could be a blue-print-ised version of the Joomla logo (coming from my civil engineering days) - plan and elevation, dimensions, etc.

I liked your idea of documentation pages strewn together to form the logo. And the blueprint idea is pretty slick as well. With recipe, I was envisioning a Chef hat toting Joomla logo with a Mario mustache. It just didn't fit for me. :D

Oh gosh no. I was thinking along the lines of "step by step".

eddieajau avatar Dec 09 '13 01:12 eddieajau

That is funny. I think a layered look of the CMS and framework logos on a blueprint like layout would be fantastic! Thanks Andrew for the outline. It sounds reasonable and gives me some focus.

Make sure you also contact Jessica Dunbar.. I know she created a G+ page for the Joomla Framework, as well as other social networks.
