[4.0] Article Featured start

Open brianteeman opened this issue 5 years ago • 15 comments

Steps to reproduce the issue

Create an article and in the publishing tab set a date for feature start and save

Expected result

Article is saved and on the set date the article will be featured - basically same behaviour as with start publishing

Actual result

Article is saved without any error but the date is NOT saved.

Additional comments

You have to set the article to be featured before the date will be saved. So at a minimum there should be a message to that effect when you try to save an article that has not already been saved as featured and not just to silently remove the date

I did a test run as you explain, and the article maliciously the time of publication remains unpublished: Schermata 2020-07-04 alle 14 03 22

I don't even see it on the forms I have on the page.

I did another test on it. On Saturday I put in an article to be published yesterday to see what happens with the variation of the day. Without updating Nightly Builds the article is not published.

Both articles created are part of Uncategorised

I had already set the module in the Frontend for the last category items and selected Uncategorised. Now I see the articles in the form, but if I click on it by error 404. In a blog page of the Uncategorised articles the two articles are not present

By updating Nightly Builds to today, the articles remain unpublished and are present in the form.

As far as I remember it should work as follows: You first have to change the featured state to "Featured". Then you can set the start and end times (featured up and featured down). Then the times are respected when showing it on a featured page. Published up and down should work in the same way, by the way.

Yes, that doesn't sound right indeed.

Only show Start Featured, Finish Featured when Featured is enabled be considered a fix?

When you toggle the featured status in the article list view - the dates are also deleted from the database table.

@wilsonge added the Release Blocker label on 18 Aug 2021

Im guessing, as there have been multiple releases since then, that this is not a release blocker after all and can have that label removed.

Why can't it behave the same as Publish/Unpublish? Unpublishing an article from the article list view doesn't remove the dates.

Found the problem. It comes from when workflows was introduced.

When featured up and featured down was merged it was done so that the fields were only displayed if the article had already been flagged as featured. showon="featured:1"

When workflows was merged then the showon was simply removed without consideration of the impact

I dont know how to emulate the showon="featured:1" when workflows is enabled and this is just a transition

What is the status? If the article isn't featured, I still see the featured up and down fields, with workflows enabled. If I make the article featured and add either a featured up or down date, the dates are removed if I save the article. There is a workaround: turn workflows integration off, add both dates and save. Turn Workflows back on. (You have to do this each time you edit the article and save)
