Starfield doesn't launch at all

Firstly I want to apologize for creating this thread, as this kind of problem isn't directly correlated to the project.

But pretty much the title says it all.

Every other game works in my Hyper-V Win11 image. But Starfield doesn't even launch. I double click, game appears in Task Manager for 5 seconds and closes.

  1. Game files are fine, I unmounted drive from VM and played it on host Win11.
  2. No error logs in Windows Event Viewer. Although /appdata/local/Starfield creates GPUcrash files everytime game is launched. But they are empty.

Host/Client OS: Win11 Drivers: installed and working GPU: RTX 2070. Allocation: 98%

A little help would be really helpful. Thank you.

No luck unfortunately. Game doesn't even notifies about GPU being undetected.

If StarField is Vulkan based, this project will not work at all for it.

Nope it's DX12 based. It includes DX12 libraries and DX Agility SDK

Can you launch as admin, see if that helps?

@Utherellus I'm going to sidetrack a bit, but what is the reason that you want to run this game in a vm? to keep host windows clean? other reasons?

It's just my temporary gaming/personal streaming server because my PC is busy next 2 months.

Pity because I can't use it by destination and play the most anticipated game of mine this year.

I managed to get Starfield working in my vm, for me I had to make sure the vm displays the correct cpu and not a virtual cpu. I did this with Proxmox but I think Hyper-V can do the same.

Not sure if this helps, but I hope it does.

Thanks for a reply. CPU-Z shows my CPU correctly though. I would love to make it more "real" for VM. I also suspect that game is not launching due to some kind of VM detection.

Sadly Hyper-V cant really do the advanced stuff proxmox's qemu KVM can.
