[Surface Book 2] No HDMI audio

Open JediBrooker opened this issue 6 years ago • 3 comments

I'm connected to my TV through hdmi and the video works fine, i just can't get audio working.

$ aplay --list-devices **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC298 Analog [ALC298 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

the audio is not even showing up.

I can also confirm that if I plug the type-C HDMI adapter in to the Surfacebook2 that I don't get any audio over it. If I plug the dongle in to some other device then audio works fine, looks to be something specific to SB2 here.

I am also seeing this issue on surface laptop 3, using USB C to HDMI. Running kubuntu 20.04 no HDMI audio is available.

Hi there,

I have experienced the same problem on a Surface Go running arch 5.9.1 Could fix the issue by modifying /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf

Deleted all previous configuration and added: options snd-hda-intel model=auto

Hope this helps!
