The specified resolution cannot be set

Sometimes the tool cannot change the resolution. Requesting from the application to Set Resolution results in no error, and no resolution change. Running from command line (QuickChangeResolution.exe --set-resolution 3840x2160 -a) will give the error message "The specified resolution cannot be set"

cephas20012 I was running into this too. It was because I had multiple monitors setup and the program was trying to change the resolution of a different monitor. The solution was to disconnect the other displays and then see if the program is working to change the resolution on the correct display. I also deleted the Ini file created in the QuickChangeResolution Directory. After I did those things it works as expected.

Thanks Myndmelt, will try deleting the ini file. I usually experience the problem when my laptop lid is closed and I am using only my 4k monitor (I use a desktop shortcut to switch between 4k for my work or HD for meeting share). When I have the problem, QuickChangeResolution cannot change to any resolution, either command line or through the GUI. I do sometimes take my laptop to another workstation that has a dual HD monitor setup, but it's sometimes when I return to my 4k that QuickChangeResolution has the problem. I usually hibernate overnight but do not reboot until the weekend.
