RIOT port: conn API is deprecated

I was getting various compilation errors regarding conn_ functions. From the RIOT repository it appears the conn API was removed in April 2017.

Is anyone working on updating the RIOT port? If not is there anyone who could, and is willing to, guide me through the process?
