Your SPD chip is probably write protected

Only way to write to the SPD is to use a hardware programmer

Thanks for the reply, I opened up hidden bios settings and disabled partial SPD read, it works now (at least on zen 5 laptop), the only issue now its I wanted to change the voltage and AMD don't use xmp. Is there any way to alter the voltage on the first data set? Many thanks.

Sorry it's been a while since I worked on this but I don't think there is a way to change the voltage unless you use XMP

Hi, this won't work with ryzen. In order to get the bios to show you need smokeless umaf. Easy to download, you just need to put it on a USB stick. In order to change the ram timings on locked sodimm. You need to buy an spd programmer on ali express. They are 60 dollars. Tbh depending on your chip and the manufacturer they may have locked ram timings with microcode and you won't see any cpu perforce uplift. The other way is to use Linux as there are programs that allow you to inject micro code for underlying and ram timings. But you have to do this every reboot.

A lot of hassle for potentially bricking your laptop. Smokeless umaf is definitely worth using as there are a number of other settings in there to improve performance. Hope this helps. My chip is a 5800h and an asus scar.

Thanks I did try the smokeless umaf but changing anything with ddr4 timings there would just lead to black screen even if I just change the timings and don't touch the frequency at all. I have the 5900hx

Yeah, unless it's lenovo, those chips can't be changed sadly.
