Mobile App does not correctly handle the selected backup folder, if it is/becomes empty.

The bug

If I empty the selected backup folder on my mobile phone, then Immich App will kick this folder out of the backup folder list. Like the screenshots show in the below.

Now "Camera" is selected and there are 4 photos in it. Screenshot_20240307-183341~2 Screenshot_20240307-183351~2

Then I have deleted all the photos in "Camera" Screenshot_20240307-183437~2

even you can't select a folder as backup folder if it is currently empty. Screenshot_20240307-183457_Mosaic_19_59_49

+1 on iOS. I regularly empty my photos app and this behaviour is not good. My current workaround is to always keep one photo in the album.

I'm still seeing this issue on Android using Immich v1.113.1. It also seems to turn off the foreground and background backup settings completely when the underlying folder is removed from the file system.

Can confirm this is also still an issue on iOS.

The fix was reverted in #15461. ~~This issue should've been reopened when that reversal was merged. 😞~~ Issue reopened!

Still experiencing this on Android - App version 1.129.0 Build .187, Server version 1.129.0 Will you guys ever fix this bug? :(

@Black4Hat007 eventually, it is not a trivial fix with the current data model. As we are working to untangle it, the issue will be fixed subsequently

I am having this issue as well, and I just wanted to describe one particular situation it affects negatively.

We got a new phone for my mother-in-law, and of course, I am the one setting it up with all apps she wants to be using, and handing it to her ready-to-go. This bug makes it awkward to do that with Immich, as the new phone has no photos in it at present - they are all on my Immich server, backed up from the previous phone. We don't want to transfer them over.

So, the new phone has an empty Camera folder, which means it can't be added to Immich. If I take a random photo, then Immich finds the folder and allows it to be added to be backed up, as well as turn the foreground and background back-up on. However, if I then go and delete that random photo I took (as I don't want to give her a new phone with a random photo of my desk in it), Immich removes the Camera folder from its backup list and turns off foreground and background backup too.

Fixing this will certainly help in this kind of situation where we have to hand over a phone to an elderly relative ready to use :-)
