Only getting a still image after downloading Live Photo
The bug
I attempted to restore some live photos to an iOS device, but found that several of them turned into still images after downloading. The problematic photos all have one thing in common: they contain a lot of text.
These photos have been uploaded to Immich for some time now, and the original files on iOS have been completely deleted. The live photo effect can be seen on the web and the Immich app, but after downloading, they turn into still images. This issue can be reproduced on both iOS 17 and iOS 18.

Please use the website, see if the Live Photo plays properly and what happens when you download.
I’m not sure that we support re downloading Live Photos using the app
@mmomjian we do support merging LivePhotos on the app, not sure what is happening here
@mmomjian I downloaded a live photo from website that couldn't be properly restored on iOS app. After downloading, I got an xxxx.JPG and an xxxx.MOV file. Everything looked normal when I opened them. Then, I tried to re-upload these two files to Immich, linking them to become a live photo. After that, I attempted to download it again on iOS app, and a new situation occurred: I ended up downloading two still images, whereas previously, I would get one still image.
@kxccc do you mind reinstall the app?
@alextran1502 I have tried to replicate the issue on different devices and also tried reinstalling the app.
Is there a sample JPG and MOV combination that you can zip up and share so I can reproduce it on my end to fix?
IMG_0293.zip This is an example.
@kxccc Hello, do you remember where did you get the two files from?
