Hello translators,
I decided to give Weblate a try for translations (but I still accept translations here).
In order to avoid unnecessary warnings by Weblate quality checks due to inconsistent punctuation in xarchiver, and to prevent translations that are already better than the original from being discarded, I have first harmonized the punctuation in xarchiver. I have also fixed the alignment for the column-wise output of xarchiver -?.
The punctuation changes have also been applied to all language files, so no further action on your part should be necessary, but you may want to check your language file. (By the way, Weblate allows full browsing of translations even without having to register there.)
For those of you who are active on Weblate and have a translation at 100% with no open quality checks, I plan to grant reviewer access (if and when possible - currently not), i.e. changes to your translation can only be suggested and must be approved by you to maintain the quality of the translation. If you are interested, just let me know your Weblate username.
@oersen: The changes you made in Weblate are already included.
@hugok79: You have the same translation for two different strings. I marked the wrong one with fuzzy.
Hello @ib, my Weblate user name is also Vistaus. But I do have an ongoing issue with not receiving notifications from Weblate, so I'm not sure if I get notifications.

Do you prefer an espace fine insécable (as changed on Weblate) or an espace insécable before colon, semicolon, exclamation mark and question mark?
At the moment there are just plain spaces in the translation file, and I can then make bulk changes directly in it, which is easier than having to edit all the strings one by one.
According to French Wikipedia (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espace_fine_ins%C3%A9cable): Espace fine insécable is before: '; ! ?' Espace insécable is before: ':'
In Weblate, I just typed a space from space bar, and couldn't find the way to have another. I still have to learn to better use Weblate.

You can add the first one in your Paramètres → Préférences → Caractères spéciaux. Just copy the narrow, non-breaking space from the wiki page in there, and it will also be available on the translation page.

I have changed the two possible titles of the "Open with" dialog:
Open With became Open file and
Open the selected files with became Open the selected files.
Language files on Weblate are updated. Translations preferably there or else here.

I've had a cursory look at https://github.com/ib/xarchiver-translations/blob/main/pt_BR.po and found a few sentences that are untranslated, as well as a few sentences that need to be revised because some nominal and verbal agreements are missing. In some sentences the prepositions are missing, which makes me think that they might be automatic translations that have never been proofread by a human being native to the language.
Can I translate the “pt_BR” file here on GitHub and make the merge request when everything is ready?
I also have access to the Weblate translation platform, but for me to be able to translate on this platform, I need you to give me the necessary permissions. I received an email notification from Weblate on October 22, 2024 saying that:

Eu verifiquei superficialmente o arquivo https://github.com/ib/xarchiver-translations/blob/main/pt_BR.po e encontrei algumas frases que estão sem traduções, além de algumas frases que precisam ser revisadas, porque faltam algumas concordâncias nominais e verbais. Em algumas frases as preposições estão faltando, o que me faz pensar que podem ser traduções automáticas que nunca foram revisadas por um ser humano nativo do idioma.
Eu posso traduzir o arquivo "pt_BR" aqui no GitHub e fazer o pedido de mesclagem quando estiver tudo pronto?
Eu também tenho acesso a plataforma de tradução Weblate, mas para eu poder traduzir nesta plataforma, eu preciso que você me dê as permissões necessárias. Eu recebi uma notificação do Weblate por e-mail no dia 22 de outubro de 2024 dizendo que:

Ocorreu a seguinte atividade em sua conta em Hosted Weblate:
O acesso ao projeto Xarchiver foi bloqueado.
Por favor contate os mantenedores do projeto se você sente que isto é inapropriado."
Eu não sei por qual motivo eu fui bloqueado no projeto do Xarchiver. O meu usuário é marcelocripe no Weblate.

Hello @ib I know @marcelocripe from another translation projects, namely the antiX and MX Linux translation, as well as one or two other projects that I can't remember now. He translates into Brazilian Portuguese pt_BR and I know he's a regular translator. However, you might want to see who has been translating Brazilian Portuguese lately and contact them. In the meantime, @marcelocripe can always suggest translations on Weblate.

I post my original text in Brazilian Portuguese together with the text of the automatic translation into English (or any other language), because I can't read and write fluently in English. My text in Brazilian Portuguese also serves to clarify any misunderstandings that may arise because of the machine translation. Not long ago, another misunderstanding occurred here on GitHub, where the programmer, I imagine, is not a native speaker of English, he read my text from the automatic translation and misinterpreted me. When the programmer is not a native English speaker, he will be able to translate from my original text into Brazilian Portuguese and will get a much better result in the machine translation into his native language. When you translate the machine translation text into another language, the quality is much lower and misunderstandings are bound to occur.

I just checked the page, and to my surprise, one of the annoying situations occurred with @ib. Now, I don't know if the time I've already put into revising/improving/translating Xarchiver will be used. I even revised the entry “The archiver doesn't support compression of directories or multiple files!”.
Please be aware that it is very bad for a volunteer translator to be asked about their native language/culture and how words are used by a person who is foreign to their language.
I realize that many GNU/Linux programs use machine translation texts, and that some volunteer translators before me just copy and paste the machine translations without analyzing that the sentences need to be adjusted to make complete sense. Also, machine translations need to be adapted to the official language standard and be consistent with each other. For example, the words “exibir” and “mostrar” have different connotations in Brazil and the word “exibir” is preferred in programs.
Thanks a lot, hugok, maybe with your words, @ib will start to trust my work as a volunteer GNU/Linux translator a little more.
It's worth pointing out that when I have trouble understanding machine translations, I always ask for help from people who are fluent in English, I try to talk to PPC, Zeh, Robin and, as has already happened, hugok himself. I know several Brazilians who are fluent in English, but none of them want to work in translation without receiving money for their work.
Can I continue to revise/improve/translate Xarchiver or will my work be used in part as happened with LXAppearance?

Eu posto o meu texto original em idioma português do Brasil junto com o texto da tradução automática para o idioma inglês (ou para qualquer outro idioma), porque eu não sei ler e escrever fluentemente em idioma inglês. O meu texto em idioma português do Brasil também serve para esclarecer qualquer mal entendido que possa acontecer por causa da tradução automática. Não faz muito tempo que ocorreu mais uma mal-entendido aqui no GitHub, onde o programador, imagino eu, não seja um nativo do idioma inglês, ele leu o meu texto da tradução automática e me interpretou muito mal. Quando o programador não é um nativo do idioma inglês, ele poderá traduzir a partir do meu texto original em idioma português do Brasil e irá obter um resultado muito melhor na tradução automática para o idioma o seu idioma natal. Quando se traduz o texto da tradução automática para um outro idioma, a qualidade é muito inferior e certamente irá ocorrer algum mal-entendido.

Eu acabei de consultar a página, e para a minha supresa, uma das situações incomodas ocorreu com @ib. Agora, eu não sei se o tempo que eu já dediquei na revisão/melhoria/tradução do Xarchiver serão utilizados. Eu revisei até a entrada "The archiver doesn't support compression of directories or multiple files!".
Saiba que é muito ruim para um tradutor voluntário ser questionado sobre o seu idioma natal/cultura e a forma como as palavras são utilizadas por uma pessoa que seja estrangeira ao seu idioma.
Eu percebo que vários programas do GNU/Linux utilizam os textos da tradução automática, que alguns tradutores voluntários antes de mim apenas copiam e colam as traduções automáticas sem analisar que as frases precisam ser ajustadas para fazer sentido completo. Bem como, as traduções automáticas precisam ser adaptadas a norma oficial do idioma e serem coerentes entre si. Por exemplo, as palavras "exibir" e "mostrar" possuem conotação diferente no Brasil e a preferência no uso dos programas é a palavra "exibir".
Muito obrigado, hugok, quem sabe com a suas palavras, o @ib passará a confiar um pouco mais no meu trabalho de tradutor voluntário do GNU/Linux.
Cabe salientar que, quando eu tenho dificuldades para compreender as traduções automáticas, eu sempre peço ajuda para as pessoas que são fluentes no idioma inglês, tento conversar com o PPC, o Zeh, o Robin e como já ocorreu, com o próprio hugok. Haja vista que, eu conheço vários brasileiros que são fluentes no idioma inglês, mas nenhum deles querem trabalhar com tradução sem receber dinheiro por seu trabalho.
Eu posso continuar a revisão/melhoria/tradução do Xarchiver ou o meu trabalho será utilizado de forma parcial como ocorreu com o LXAppearance?
