🌟 Major Changes in Horilla v2.0.0

1. Class-Based Views for Enhanced Flexibility

We’re transitioning from function-based views to class-based views in Django, unlocking new levels of modularity and customization:

  • Modularity: Build and extend modules with cleaner, reusable code.
  • Flexibility: Simplify maintenance and integration for developers.
  • Customizability: Tailor Horilla to your organization’s workflows with ease. This shift empowers developers to create custom features faster and streamlines contributions. For details on how class-based views work in Horilla v2.0.0, including code examples and implementation, check out our technical documentation. Developers with custom modules may need minor updates to align with class-based views—our upcoming migration guide will make this easy!

2. Powerful New Modules to Transform HR

Horilla v2.0.0 introduces a suite of new modules to streamline HR processes and integrate with modern tools:

  • Dedicated Reporting Module: Generate customizable, data-driven HR reports for smarter decisions.
  • WhatsApp Flows Integration: Automate employee notifications and engagement via WhatsApp.

🛠️ Seamless Migration: No Model Changes!

Great news: Horilla v2.0.0 involves no model changes to existing modules, meaning no database schema updates are required for current functionality. The migration will be direct and hassle-free:

  • Upgrade Steps: Pull the latest code, run python manage.py migrate (for new module schemas), collect static files, and restart your server.
  • Custom Code: If you’ve customized Horilla with function-based views, you’ll need to adapt to class-based views. Our class-based view documentation provides detailed guidance. This smooth transition lets you dive into v2.0.0’s new features with minimal effort.

📅 What to Expect

  • Release Timeline: We’re finalizing v2.0.0 for release in the coming months. Follow this Discussion and our roadmap for updates.

Thank you so much for your kind words and continued support — it truly means a lot to the entire Horilla team!

We’re in the final phase of wrapping up Horilla v2.0.0 and your encouragement gives us an extra boost to push through. Right now, the best way the community can help is by:

  • Testing the beta once it’s released and sharing any feedback or bugs you encounter
  • Reviewing and contributing to documentation or UI suggestions
  • Spreading the word about Horilla to others in the open-source and HR tech space

If you're interested in contributing in any specific area (e.g. mobile UI, translations, module testing), feel free to open a discussion or reach out via GitHub Issues — we’d love to collaborate!

Hi Everyone,

We sincerely apologize for the delay in releasing Horilla 2.0. Due to some unprecedented issues that arose during development, we've had to push back our original timeline.

Loving the Horilla project! A feature that would be a huge workflow improvement for us is an accommodation module. Being able to manage employee housing, room allocations, and bed vacancies within rooms directly within the HRMS would be fantastic. It would really help streamline everything! @horilla-opensource

divyeshvadher-sec avatar Sep 19 '25 04:09 divyeshvadher-sec

Hi @divyeshvadher-sec ,

Thank you for the detailed feature proposal

This is a very relevant use case, and we agree that an Employee Accommodation Management Module would add real value for organizations with on-site staff housing.

Since Horilla is an open-source project, you are very welcome to contribute directly by developing the accommodation module — we’d be happy to review and merge it. At the same time, we’ll also add this module to our roadmap so that it becomes part of Horilla’s long-term direction.

Looking forward to your contributions and ideas!

Best Regards, Team Horilla

I install horilla but i m unable to calculate overtime. Can anyone help me?

kami686-ra avatar Nov 05 '25 17:11 kami686-ra

Hi @kami686-ra ,

Overtime calculations in Horilla are handled automatically based on the employee’s assigned shift and shift schedule for each weekday. Once an employee completes the minimum working hours defined in their shift, any additional hours worked are automatically recorded as overtime.

If you haven’t set up shifts and schedules yet, please follow the steps explained in this blog: 👉 Employee Shift Management in Horilla

Once your shifts and schedules are properly configured, the overtime calculation will work automatically.

Best regards, Team Horilla
