When turning thermostat to Heat/Cool from Off, not properly functioning

The problem

I have an automation that turns off a set of thermostats when exterior doors are open longer than 5 minutes, and re-activates the thermostats when the doors are closed longer than a minute.

This works great for the thermostats on the Honeywell TCC integration, but it is not working correctly on the Lyric integration.

The thermostats are turned off correctly (using the device action "Change HVAC mode" to "off"). Intermittently (e.g. non-deterministically) when attempting to turn them back on (using the device action "Change HVAC mode" to "heat_cool") the thermostats are correctly set to auto changeover mode, but they are stuck in "Heat" mode when they should be in "Cool". They also have a temporary hold set (this seems to be a side effect of changing the HVAC mode?)

Even if the temporary hold is cleared by using the "Change preset" action to "No hold", the thermostat is still stuck incorrectly in "Heat" mode when the temperature in the room is above the "cool" threshold.

The only other clue I've been able to find is that the history shows that the thermostat is set to "Heat" 5-10 minutes after being turned off. However, I can't track down any action that would be causing this as the history doesn't show it associated with any automation (and to be clear none of my automations change the HVAC mode to heat).

Would appreciate any help or pointers - or perhaps this may be a thermostat or Lyric API bug?

It would also be helpful if there was a way to see a debug log of all of the commands set by the HA Lyric integration to the API, but I have been unsuccessful in finding a way to do so yet!
