I was trying to see why this hasn't been updated since early 2019, and I found the answer on his Twitter account.

Hopefully someone can takeover the project and continue the great work that Carsten had been working on for over a decade!

How sad. RIP Carsten. No offers of maintainers to carry on his legacy?

It's too big of a project for me to maintain but I would be happy to join a small group interested in bringing this back up and running.

We could run this project and try to attract donations to a good cause in memory of Carsten.
