Create a poll for LinkedIn
Overview
We need to create a poll question to see who is interested in Open Source Data.
Action Items
- [x] Brainstorm at least 5 questions we can ask that we feel will engage LinkedIn users
- [x] Review questions with team and vote on three best questions
- [x] test questions with poll on Slack to General channel
- [ ] take most successful question, prep LinkedIn post, get approval from Bonnie
- [ ] Ask Bonnie to post
- [ ] Leave post up for a week, and move on to next steps
Next steps:
- create a template message to send to users who answered polls
- reach out to people who answered the poll
- collect and analyze information from their profiles
Resources/Instructions
Update: Brainstormed a list of potential LinkedIn poll questions and posted it in the UX research slack channel for discussion.
Update: Posted top questions with answers in the UX research Slack channel.
@hannahsgr Please add update using this template (even if you have a pull request)
Progress: "What is the current status of your project? What have you completed and what is left to do?" Blockers: "Difficulties or errors encountered." Availability: "How much time will you have this week to work on this issue?" ETA: "When do you expect this issue to be completed?" Pictures: "Add any pictures of the visual changes made to the site so far."
If you need help, be sure to either:
- ask for help at your next meeting
- put a "Status: Help Wanted" label on your issue and pull request
- put up a request for assistance on the #access-the-data channel.
Progress: Posted poll on Slack channel, waiting for results Blockers: None Availability: 6 hours ETA: Leave the poll up for a week to see how it performs before moving forward
Also, after reviewing current poll results, I will be modifying one option to make it more consistent with the rest.
What statement best describes your relationship with open-source data? I love open-source data! I use it regularly I’m somewhat familiar with open-source data I don’t use open source data I don’t use open-source data, but I would like to
The second option asks about familiarity with open-access data while the other options ask about usage. To make it more consistent and the options mutually exclusive (it is possible to be familiar with open-access data and have never used it) - I'll be changing the second option to - I have some experience using open-access data.
Progress: Filled out the "Reach Bonnie" form to request access to the Hack for LA LinkedIn page to post the poll. Blockers: Waiting for a response. Availability: 6 hours ETA: Depends on Bonnie's availability.
Progress: Waiting for a response from Bonnie. Availability: 6 hours ETA: Depends on Bonnie's availability.
@hannahsgr The poll looks good, However I recommend adding some hashtags and @ message to increase its reach.
Hashtags we should use #data-analysis #government-data #citizen-science #data-literacy #city-data #open-source #open-source-data
People we should at message in the post

Can you think of any that I left off?
Progress: LinkedIn poll approved by Bonnie Blockers: Need access to Hack for LA's LinkedIn account to post poll Availability: 6 hours
Hannah has left the project, the last update from Slack is: Hannah Sangra 11:58 AM Bonnie has approved the LinkedIn poll question, however, no details on how to access the LinkedIn account to make the post were provided. I think you’ll need to put in another request to Bonnie for that info. I did request that info in a Slack thread but I got no response.
