Messaging no longer supported

Likely due to a change in API, messaging through third party apps no longer works AFAIK.

Some happened with Slim Socialand Frost.

Hum, that's interesting as my app does not use any API: it uses the very mobile version. To see the Facebook website I am loading, you will have to tweak your user agent, using for example the following one:

Mozilla/5.0 (BB10; Kbd) AppleWebKit/537.35+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/10.3.3.2205 Mobile Safari/537.35+

Even though I don't use Facebook anymore, I did a test with an old account, and it seems they have cut the Messenger branch off the Facebook tree. Accessing the Messages page gives an error saying that the page is not accessible for some unknown reason.

Either it's a mistake and Facebook will fix their website, either it's on purpose and it will never work again.

The same problem exists for other apps:

Sorry for the misreporting.

Indeed none of the light and mobile versions seem to work, even on a browser (Firefox). Tried mbasic.facebook.com; m.facebook.com, touch.facebook.com

Only through messenger.com or facebook.com I could access my messages. I don't use it often, just to receive messages. Tried most of the other apps on F-Droid; Slim Social; Frost etc, but I guess all run on the same principle, so all are broken.

Time to ditch Facebook.

Thanks for reporting, it's good to know why I'll be receiving tons of 1 ⭐ reviews on the Play Store 😉 I'll keep this issue open in case there are new things happening.

I got a notification on desktop facebook saying "Some features not available. This is to respect new rules for messaging services in Europe. We're working to bring them back." So maybe messenger via m.facebook.com will return in future.

GDPR stuff which Facebook is refusing to comply with probably. :man_shrugging:
