"node.js: Build a Web App using Google Cloud Platform" CodeLab hangs on start

I tried the mentioned CodeLab. At "3. Try out the sample" step, I was able to install depedencies fine but when I tried to start the app with "node app.js", it just hang for me forever. Trying the following "https://cloudssh.developers.google.com/devshell/proxy?port=8080" always ended up with 400.
