Pinta: inaccurate graphical tablet cursor on fractional UI scaling
Please confirm there isn't an open report for this issue
- [x] I have searched through bug reports
Summary
Noticed it first on my laptop that is set nearly exactly the same way as my desktop.
When you use fractional scaling (KDE automatically sets 175% for 14 inch FHD laptop) the cursor of graphical tablet is pointing to a different area and when you press it, it draws in a different area offset from the preview. I tested it on a laptop (up-to-date) and on a desktop (1 week without updates) so the system details and being up to date shouldn't matter.
Managed to make a screenshot of this, but better to see it with your own eyes.
Also important note. Flathub version of Pinta which was updated few weeks ago to v3.0 doesn't have that problem because I also checked that version on both devices. Fractional scaling has accurate graphical tablet pen there, but I would like to keep using Solus version since it is themed better and doesn't use GTK4+libadwaita style of UI.
Steps to reproduce
- Set fractional scaling of the screen to 175%
- Plug graphical tablet
- Open Pinta
- Use the brush tool and increase its size to easily see the brush border preview
- Try to draw something on the tablet
Expected result
The brush follows the brush border preview
Actual result
The brush is offset from the brush border preview

No response
after pinta 3.0 solus update
It still happens.
Just an update on the issue.
After today's sync (week 29) the issue is gone. It shouldn't be because of Pinta 3.0.2 since there were no bugfixes for that in this, but idk what fixed it. Maybe the new KDE Plasma version got a better fractional scaling or whatever. (tested with the same devices on 150% and 175% fractional scaling)
Anyway, issue is gone so I'm closing it.
