If this call came from a _pb2.py file, your generated code is out of date and must be regenerated with protoc >= 3.19.0.
If you cannot immediately regenerate your protos, some other possible workarounds are:
1. Downgrade the protobuf package to 3.20.x or lower.
2. Set PROTOCOL_BUFFERS_PYTHON_IMPLEMENTATION=python (but this will use pure-Python parsing and will be much slower).

Our version of pychromecast is from 2019; version 4.1.0. The latest is in the 14's, so that probably isn't helping anything.
Any chance this will be fixed in the near future?
Nobody has a chance to take a look at this yet. In the mean time, you can try the flatpak. Cheers!
Great, flatpak version works OK!
pychromecast needs to be downgraded to 13.1.0 but mkchromecast needs the current pychromecast version currently. You may uninstall pychromecast to allow displaycal to start, sudo eopkg remove --ignore-dependency pychromecast
