`--no-convert` can only work with archives, not with documents like PDF or EPUB, there of course it must extract/convert pages to images. This is all done by the MuPDF library...

Try with an external library, the bundled library is compiled without CJK.

You need MuPDF library installed, then use `extlib` tag, and if needed add `static` or `pkgconfig` tags.
