Problem to detect old firefox version

I have a problem to detect version of older Firefox, for example: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.0

I see that Mozilla made some changes: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0

But I am sure, that it worked in older version of jquery.browser plugin
