Two-dimensional Fourier transforms ?

Thanks for the awesome work on modernizing fftpack. I've used simple signal processing stuff.

If my understanding is correct however, it seems like the current implementation only provide 1D versions of the FFT. Is that correct? Are there any reasons why the two-dimensional versions have not been implemented? I can always
