Tray icon change when new items arrive

Please consider making an option for tray icon showing if there are new feed items available since last time. I do not mean implementing a full read/not_read properties of every item, it could be something simple like 'any new items since I left-clicked on a icon' or 'since I left-clicked and scrolled to the last item in popup window'

I wanted to use Feed Notifier as a rss watcher on my headless torrent computer, and I connect to it through RDP only when I feel like it. Popups aren't useful in my case since I do not have the rdp session constantly open.

Not a bad idea, but note that you can check "Infinite Duration" in the preferences to prevent the pop-ups from disappearing until you click on them.

Popup windows have some flaws. There are times when I see that there are some new items in my rss feeds, but I do not feel like reading them right now. Simply ignoring popup leaves me with a small unusable part of a screen. And I have to be careful not to click on it because it will disappear and later I could just forget that I had something to read in there. Tray icon would just sit there, reminding me every now and then that I do have something I have to read. Then when I feel like it, I would run my heavy-slow-and-bulky rss reader, read full articles and click on Notifier icon to bring up popup window and clear the 'new message' notification. Well, yes, it is just a wish but I think any 'notifier', whatever it checks, should have some kind of tray icon notification. I am already disappointed in Thunderbird because it doesn't have one for rss feeds, in Opera because it's tray icon in unstable, and some other rss readers (pretty much all of them) because they are either buggy or laggy... I'm thinking about learning some kind of programming language and writing my own, just because I couldn't find one that would have this feature and be lightweight at the same time :(
