Bug: Slack huddle can't be maximized
Avoid duplicates
- [X] I have searched the issues tracker for a bug report similar to mine, in vain
Ferdium Version

Other Linux
Operating System Version
Fedora 37
What arch are you using?

Last Known Working Ferdium version

Expected Behavior
Huddles in slack start minimized below the channels list on the left. There is a button to open the mini window. Once clicked the huddle gets an independent window that can be maximized.
Actual Behavior
Clicking on the "open mini window" button has no effect.
Steps to reproduce
- Start a huddle in Slack
- Click on the "open mini window" button that is part of the huddle (see screenshot below)

For context, slack wants to open a new window for this but nothing happens. I've also seen a warning inside the app (so slack inside ferdium) about popups being blocked but I couldn't find any configuration for that in ferdium.
I should mention that this functionality is essential when viewing screen shares.

Hi, I'm affected too :( Any updates on this?
Confirming this bug also exists on macOS
Same here cannot use slack on ferdium because of this bug.
Know few people there are affected at this bug (myself) as well. Could anyone please prioritize it a little bit more? Thanks
Bump. Slack's huddle is a major and very popular feature of that app and by extent its screen sharing. It's mighty annoying that whenever someone wants to share their screen in the middle of a huddle, I have to jump out of Ferdium and open another Slack instance (web/native).
+1 have been living with this issue for a while, happy to help test if needed?
+1 Also struggling with this on Ubuntu based distro.

Also having this issue!
same here on fedora 37 with the flatpak Ferdirum.
Same here on windows & nixos, 3 days left...
Ps. I did some testing since it works on Franz. I copied their recipe over to Ferdium, but it had no change. Leading me to believe this is a problem on a higher level and not on a recipe level.
in the meantime, at least for Fedora, I've found that slack still works when installed via the snap store. I had turned to ferdium to be my main driver of all these apps, especially since slack stopped working with its main rpm install, so this is the workaround for the moment.
may be related to https://github.com/ferdium/ferdium-app/issues/1014
same, can't log in to web pages that require Google auth.
Also facing this, the mini window does not open in MacOS.
+1 Linux Manjaro Latest
+1 Kubuntu
+1 opensuse tumbleweed through flatpack (works well in Slack through flatpack).
How is this still an issue?

We are accepting contributions to help fix issues if you are willing to contribute! 😄
People are working on this project in their spare time. Their priorities may not be the same as yours.
If you are hindered by this issue, there are a few options for you.
- If you know how to code, contribute and help fix the issue
- Pay a developer to fix it (or prioritize this issue)
- Find a workaround
Complaining doesn't help anyone. I have had a look a while ago and unfortunately, fixing this is beyond my skills since it seems not to be a bug but rather some feature slack uses that is not implemented in this app. I think slack uses javascript to open a new window which is different than clicking on a hyperlink and this behaviour seems blocked in ferdium. This is not something in the recipe I believe but I may be wrong.
Let's keep in mind that we have a great piece of software that is available to use for free. I myself use the slack desktop app until this is resolved and for me, this is an acceptable solution for now.

Any updates?
+1 on Ubuntu 22.04
I would love to see this fixed but it doesn't look like an easy one.
In the meantime, I have a terrible and fragile workaround in user.js to make this kind of work, at least for screen shares. It basically extends the preview part to cover most of the screen. Only works with "Open huddle window" icon, click again to toggle.

@ulasozguler it looks like a good starting point, thank you :)
Can anyone give a summary of what the underlying issue is (I know the symtpoms), and how one might go about fixing it... if ChatGP... I mean a person was so inclined?
I haven't contributed to Ferdium before so don't even know where to start

My understanding is that the underlying rendering engine blocks pop-ups
