Thumbnail Gallaries
To flagrantly plagiarize from nbshinx's latest commit, it might be a nice feature to implement thumbnail galleries in some way: https://nbsphinx.readthedocs.io/en/latest/subdir/gallery.html
lol I saw that too - yeah I don't think that it should be too hard to do...maybe it could just be a gallery: directive that takes a list of relative links to pages and then builds a gallery of all the first-images that it sees?
oh I just saw that this is basically exactly what the nbsphinx gallery thing does haha. Maybe the easier thing to do would just be to fork that little directive out into a separate sphinx extension? There doesn't seem to be anything inherently "jupyter notebook"-y about that feature to me...
@chrisjsewell do you think this is taken care of by your sphinx-panels project? I think you can get close to the same effect w/ that...
It's not a one-to-one mapping, but there are certainly some extra aspects that could go into panels: primarily the ability to turn the entire card into a clickable link (could maybe do this via https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.4/utilities/stretched-link/) and the hover highlighting.
I'll move the issue to sphinx-panels, as its probably more helpful to be there.
