Your use case

What would you like to do?

Like in Bigbluebutton, it would be nice to be able to share a document (pdf, texte file such as odt and docx, presentation file such as odp and pptx)

Why would you like to do it?

To reduce the need of video stream (share screen) when the purpose is to show a document. Camera are not required also.

How would you like to achieve it?

Click on one button, choose the file we want everybody to seen on their screen and then be able to change pages and comment it to everybody in the call.

Have you considered any alternatives?

Hi @Thatoo - thanks for the suggestion. As with the whiteboard feature, this is something we're looking at as an enhancement for next year once we've got some of the more fundamental features implemented on Element Call. We'll keep you updated here as things progress.

MS Teams seems to offer this as well. It looks like participants can switch slides independently from the presenter. This reminds me on the "follow" feature in Collabora Office where the user can enable to follow the scroll position of another user.

Without such a independant or shared control feature, the only benefits would be: (a) possibly easier UX with one app for presenting instead of a call app and a separate slides app and (b) possibly better performance.

However, I wonder if the performance actually is better. If AV1 is just very efficient in streaming still images, maybe this is no argument any longer.
