Please add a License

Thank you for publishing this library! It is a dependency for many node projects and license scanners flag this library and it's consumers for not having a license. Could you add a permissive license such as MIT?

+1 on license! I know you've added it in the package.json but would be super helpful to add an official license file

No. It's public domain.

@dscape I understand at a high level what that means, but in specific instances it's not clear. In general, I think it means you want this software to not have a license because it's owned by the public.

Have you considered perhaps the Unlicense? It's pretty simple: https://spdx.org/licenses/Unlicense.html

It's supported by GitHub and it makes it so our licensing software doesn't flag it, etc.

MIT is as permissive as it gets it is a license stating to do whatever you want. I do not understand the resistance to this.
