I found an even easier workaround for this hanging issue. Close the compare/merge tab first, THEN close the app. It exits cleanly then.

Are you by chance using multiple monitors? Unlike most apps which open their window on whatever screen was active at the time, I find Meld always opens on monitor one....
That seems likely to be your culprit. Now you just have to figure out where that’s coming from. :)
