We are not using ddev, we have our custom setup to be as close as possible to our kubernetes cluster as possible

That's not how it works. Pimcore is not scanning your folder for files but just storing them there. You have to create the files in Pimcore to be shown in...

@brusch @fashxp what do you think of this? this might solve the deadlock issue with relations and only does delta-updates of changed relations.
