Unable to consistently delete all builds using docker desktop
Description
Sometimes, I am unable to successfully delete image builds using docker desktop. After attempting to delete builds, one or more builds will remain in the list and if I click on one, it shows me this error.
If I restart docker desktop, the build will still be there. The weird thing about this too is that it will then let me click on it and properly display build data instead of the previous error page leading me to believe that it is not actually getting removed behind the scenes.
Reproduce
- Build some images
- Navigate to the
Buildspage in the app - Select all builds using the checkboxes
- Select
Delete - Observe that occasionally, some builds will still be listed. Repeat steps 1-4 a few times if everything goes away as expected.
- Attempt to delete those stale builds
- Observe that nothing happens
- Click on the stale build and observe the error saying it no longer exists
- Restart Docker Desktop
- Observe that the stale builds are still listed and will actually let you click them and access build info without warning
Expected behavior
Deleting builds through the app should delete all builds and not display stale links on the builds page. Also restarting docker desktop should not show any previously "deleted" builds with working links.

Same issue here. Deleting all builds is such a pain... And with all the parallel build output it's not exactly the most straighforward task to find out which service actually errored out.

We can delete it after restarting the docker desktop. The same problem occurs in Windows.
Same problem. Restarting docker desktop solves it, but it is such a pain to restart it every single time when you want to clean up.
@PawelBuczek @borahanarslan is this problem happening with the latest version of Docker Desktop? Can you please share a Diagnostics ID?
I can confirm that I have this error on the newest update too
Problem still here and it's quite annoying. Restarting Docker Desktop doesn't do the trick for me :(
i tried docker buildx history rm --all and it worked for me
Just encountered this as well
The same is happening to me; this issue is quite annoying. It looks like the build exists. If you click to open it, it opens, but if you try to delete it, it never disappears, and if you try to click on the build again, you get the error that it doesn't exist
I had to run what @lalithhakari says, but it just worked using the Docker Desktop Terminal for me
docker buildx history rm --all
Yep same here as previously pointed out by @lalithhakari this will work docker buildx history rm --all otherwise it is very annoying. I am running on Mac OS 26.0.1 and Docker Desktop 4.48.0
