dpkg --verify fails on ubuntu 22.04 install

  • [x] I have tried with the latest version of Docker Desktop
  • [x] I have tried disabling enabled experimental features
  • [x] I have uploaded Diagnostics
  • Diagnostics ID: Not relevant, also it is not generating an id

Expected behavior

dpkg --verify should verify docker desktop files

Actual behavior

dpkg --verify crashes due to to parsing error, choking the entire process if you were trying to verify multiple packges ( the behaviour that dpkg dies completely when there is one sufficiently broken packages is

  • Linux distro: ubuntu (latest updates 17.08.2022T07:00Z)
  • Distro version: 22.04
  • Docker Desktop Version: 4.10.1-82475
  • Docker Desktop Version: 4.11.1-84025

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. install on ubuntu 22.04
  2. run dpkg --verify or dpkg --verify docker-desktop resulting output :
my-user@my-pc:~$ sudo dpkg --verify docker-desktop
dpkg: error: control file 'md5sums' for package 'docker-desktop' is missing value separator

There hasn't been any activity on this issue for a long time. If the problem is still relevant, mark the issue as fresh with a /remove-lifecycle stale comment. If not, this issue will be closed in 30 days.

Prevent issues from auto-closing with a /lifecycle frozen comment.
