Spike: Focus on destinations rather than travel paths

Not sure if this is a good idea

Since Co₂ordinate focuses on destinations for people to meet, the design of the tool could be rethought to focus more on destinations instead of travel paths.

If destinations are the focus, we could display or filter based on other data, such as how "sustainable" a city is, its ability to host conferences or remote workers, etc.

Not necessarily rethinking the tool, but it could be an additional way to use it.

@wrynearson The idea stems from a conversation with Benjamin Tran Dinh, creator of Chronotrains a tool to visualize how far you can get in Europe by train in x hours (he also happens to be a Mapbox alumni).

His product attracted an insane level of interest in social media. The reasons are:

  • understanding what the tool does takes 5 seconds tops;
  • the isochrone is a great, screenshot-able visual;
  • perhaps most importantly, people can immediately look at where they live and comment (1, 2, 3...)

I would like to brainstorm about ways to recreate some of this for Co2ordinates. Currently, the first impression is one of a relatively complex tool with a narrow use case (which it is). I think we could have something along the lines of "look at how well my city is connected! Plus it has a great sustainability index! Look at the screenshot" (yes, I know it's fantasy but hopefully you get the point)

Thoughts @LanesGood @kcarini ?
