Free (as in freedom) resources for TrueCraft use
Starting this thread to collect ideas for resources (sound, music, textures) that we can use for TrueCraft.
https://github.com/deathcap/ProgrammerArt - CC texture pack we may be able to leverage
Some CC ambient music: https://freemusicarchive.org/genre/Ambient/, please listen and make some suggestions on which pieces you like.
"Cylinders" by Chris Zabriskie (album) is pretty good.
I've gotten a fair amount of assets off http://opengameart.org
Thanks for the link.
Feel free to take textures and sounds from Minetest. I could work on CC0 assets if needed.
You can find free music here: http://hugo.pro/downloads/music/index.en.html
This free/libre software can be used to make textures: http://neotextureedit.sourceforge.net/
What is the license on the Minetest assets?
Also, I've been using gimp pretty effectively so far to make textures.
What is the license on the Minetest assets?
CC BY-SA 3.0 Unported for most, WTFPL and CC0 1.0 for some.
Cool, thanks.
Fun fact - some sounds in Minecraft are sampled from freesound sounds. A couple lists were up for a while but are now gone, but archive.org has the page saved: http://web.archive.org/web/20110817011358/http://www.minecraft.net/credits.jsp List Two: http://web.archive.org/web/20110814170540/http://www.freesound.org/usersAttribution.php?id=584268 List One: http://web.archive.org/web/20110814170404/http://www.freesound.org/usersAttribution.php?id=1045860&format=html I went through some of them and marked the ones I recognized, but I definitely could've missed some: http://pastebin.com/TbakSJrh
Good find, @brudin! We should be able to use those straight-up.
No problem, like I said though, they were sampled so some of them aren't the direct sounds and would need some clipping/pitch adjustments.
Why not have it so the game can optionally load resources from the user's Minecraft directory?
I want to avoid that for the time being.
That's understandable. Well, there's some awesome progress on this lately, love checking out the blog posts. Keep it up!
I have pulled in some MineTest sound effects.
