Hello from 2024! :grinning:

I somehow didn't see this PR when you opened it, sorry. I just reworked the README file including some changes along these lines. I'll close this PR, but feel free to holler if you think the README still needs changes. Thanks!

Note: In case it's hard to follow my branch changes, I removed the "master" branch and forked it to "py2" (old files w/o a lot of changes) and "main" (updated version taking advantage of py3 features).
