Darken background

Suggestion: When the image thumbnail is shown, darken the background (gradually) until the image thumbnail is removed. Allow user to enable/disable this option and also tweak the background darkness (perhaps allow user to specify "X" of: rgba(0,0,0,X) ?).

That's a good idea -- it'd make the image more visible and would make it more obvious that a pop-up is active.

An upcoming feature will allow the pop-up to be displayed over the entire browser window (not just the web page's area) or even over a larger portion of the screen (beyond the extent of Fireofx). So in those situations it'd make sense to darken the entire Firefox window or the entire screen.

I'll have to investigate whether it's possible to do that from a Firefox plug-in. It's likely doable for the current web page but I don't know about for larger areas.
