Flashing popups on FF25, Ubuntu 13.10 (workaround)

Open quantumlemur opened this issue 12 years ago • 2 comments

Lately, thumbnail zoom sometimes seems to have a problem with popup placement, and often the popup will overlap the cursor. When there's a popup underneath the cursor, it covers up the previously-hovered link, which causes the popup to disappear (same as if the cursor had been moved off of a link). When the popup disappears, the link is now back under the cursor, and the popup reappears. This causes rapid cycling of the popup, resulting in an unviewable image. It can sometimes be cured by scrolling the page to reposition it, or more reliably, by positioning the page such that the default position of the popup would be partially out of the window (at the top or bottom), so that it's forced to move by the presence of the window boundary.

This has been happening on FF25, in Ubuntu 13.10.

Do you know what change caused the problem to appear? Was it an upgraded FF version, updated Ubuntu, or updated Thumbnail Zoom Plus?

Cursor focus problems are tricky on Linux, but a couple preference settings may help:

  • Try toggling the setting of "Pop-up takes keyboard focus"; turning it off helps on some versions of Linux.
  • Turning off "Show pictures using all available space" should prevent the pop-up from covering the link.

Let me know whether either of these help.

Turning off "Pop-up takes keyboard focus" helped for me. Before, the image would flash once when hovered over; I had to go over the link/image a second time for it to pop up and stay up. This is on Mint Cinnamon 16 with both stable and beta versions of the addon, and 25.0.1 FF. Everything worked fine on W7, however.
