Steps to reproduce

Use one of the following:

• contour compiled from the current master branch (with clang in my case)
• contour-0.5.1.7247.AppImage
• contour-0.5.1.7247-ubuntu24.04-amd64.deb

Distorted sound was attested by me with the following combinations: Ubuntu 24.04 VM using Gnome Boxes or VMWare on two different machines with different host systems, AppImage run directly on Steam Deck with up-to-date SteamOS.

The issue was present also if the bell sound was changed to a custom one in the configuration (but since the sound was longer, it was much more clear that it was being somehow mangled).

Expected Behavior

Beep sounds as caused by BEL (\a) are played immediately and without being cut. The same as in case of 4.3 version on the same machines.

Actual Behavior

The start of the sound is cut off and/or mangled, sometimes not playing at all or with significant delay.

Additional notes

• contour-0.5.1.7247-win64.zip on Windows 11 was working as expected.
• on the same systems as mentioned above: FlatPak 0.4.3 is working as expected, AppImage of 4.3 from GitHub is also OK.
